Counseling Staff
David Dorris, MA
David Dorris, MA, Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, joined the Bindu team as of July 2021. He earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA and earned his undergrad from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, graduating Magna Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
He has worked in a variety of settings including clinical environments such as Hospice, psychiatric and substance abuse facilities, to more personal situations such as in-home therapy, with toddlers on up to the elderly. He is very much interested in the interface between mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), including 3rd wave CBT iterations, such as mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). He firmly believes in the power of meditation and feels that its synthesis with cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as other forms of psychotherapy, has the potential to really add nuance and depth to already existing therapies. He is also interested in notions of self and how overly rigid beliefs in a concrete self can catalyze and/or sustain psychopathology and negative behavior patterns.
He is looking to continue to develop an eclectic approach to therapy that includes aspects of mindfulness, CBT, ACT, Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), person-centered, psychodynamic, and existential-humanistic therapies.
